Published in the journal of “Lipids in Health and Disease.” The study was conducted on 102 people split between those taking the African Mango and those taking the placebo. According to the study taking African Mango resulted in “Significant improvements in body weight, body fat, and waist circumference. African Mango (Irvingia Gabonensis) administered 150 mg twice daily before meals to overweight and/or obese human volunteers favorably impacts body weight and a variety of parameters characteristic of the metabolic syndrome.”

In another study:
In May 2005 a study was undertaken by the Nutrition,HIV and Health Research Unit from the University of Yaounde in Cameroon.
The aim of the study was to test the effect of Irvingia Gabonensis seeds on body weight and blood lipids of obese subjects in Cameroon.
This was done by means of a double blind randomised study involving 40 subjects. 28 received Irvingia Gabonensis and 12 received a placebo. The study period was for a total of one month. The subjects taking IG were administered 1.05 grams three times a day for the month.
At the conclusion of the study the mean body weight of the IG group was decreased by 5.26 +/- 2.37% and that of the placebo group by 1.32 +/- 0.41%. This is a significant difference.
The obese patients under Irvingia gabonensis treatment also had a significant decrease of total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, triglycerides, and an increase of HDL-cholesterol. On the other hand, the placebo group did not manifest any changes in blood lipid components.
